About

A bit about me, and how I ended up doing this.

Adam's desk, mid project

I'm a UX Designer based in London. I've worked across retail brands in Europe since 2019, starting out in digital design and moving into UX and UI. These days that mostly means the parts of a site people actually use. Product pages, listings, baskets, checkouts.

Most of what I do now, I learned by being handed something I didn't yet know how to do. A design system project landed when Figma wasn't really part of my day to day, so I put work hours and a fair few evenings into learning it, then used it on the real thing straight away. The same happened with code, when a developer left and I stepped up to cover the A/B test builds.

Tutorials give you the tidy version of a problem. Real projects give you the awkward bits, and that's where you actually get quicker. These days I design far more tests than I code, but knowing how something gets built still shapes everything I hand over.

Away from the screen

I've played drums since I was sixteen, including seven years of private tuition that I owe most of my playing to. I'm not able to play much at the moment, between limited space and the noise, but I'm building a soundproof studio so that should sort itself out before long.

The playing is one part of it. The other is the ritual of it. Sitting down to practise, struggling with something, slowing it right down, going again, and then at some point it clicks and you can play it. That has never got tiring.

Away from that I nerd out over coffee. Different beans, different brew methods, though I always come back to espresso.
